Terms of play

Plain language. Last updated October 11, 2026.

TDot Life is a game made by Clouthier Simulation Labs, a sole proprietorship in Ontario, Canada. By creating an account you agree to these terms.

Who can play

You must be 18 or older. We ask your date of birth at sign-up and we take you at your word; if we learn you are under 18 we close the account. Some places inside the game (the pub, the liquor store, the cannabis shop) check the date of birth on your account and only let you in at 19 or older, the legal age in Ontario.

It is a game, and it is fiction

TDot Life is a work of fiction and satire set in a made-up version of Toronto. The people who work in the places, the shops, the products and the ads marked as samples are invented. Any likeness to a real person or business is a coincidence, apart from public landmarks that keep their real names. Jokes about Canadian life, the weather, transit, rent, trade and politics are humour, not statements of fact about anyone. Real political parties and politicians are not in the game on purpose.

Alcohol and cannabis in the game

The city has a pub, a liquor store and a legal cannabis shop because real Canadian cities do. What your character does there is pretend. We do not sell, deliver or arrange the sale of alcohol or cannabis. No alcohol or cannabis company has paid to appear in the game, no real cannabis brand appears in it, and we do not accept cannabis advertising. Nothing in the game is meant to encourage anyone to drink, to use cannabis, or to use more of either. The game gives no reward for excess. In real life: follow the law where you live, never drive impaired, and if drinking or using is causing you trouble, ConnexOntario (connexontario.ca) can point you to free help.

Crime, police and court in the game

Pickpocketing, tickets, police reports and court in TDot Life are game rules about play money. They are not real accusations, records or legal findings, and they say nothing about the real person behind an account.

Dating, marriage and other players

Dating, marriage and divorce in the game are between characters. They have no legal effect and create no real relationship or obligation. The other players are real adults we have not met or screened. Do not share your address, banking details, passwords or anything else you would not tell a stranger. Do not send real money to another player. If you decide to meet someone from the game in real life, that is your choice and your responsibility.

Messages and groups

You can block anyone, and you can report anyone. Private messages are private between the people in them, but when a message or a player is reported, a person on our side may read the reported conversation to decide what to do. We keep messages for as long as the feature needs them and may remove them when an account is closed.

What players say to each other

Players write to each other in private messages, groups, the feed and public chat. Those words are theirs. We do not write them, approve them or check them before they are delivered, and we do not watch conversations as they happen. We do not read private messages unless one is reported to us or the law requires us to look. So we cannot promise that what another player tells you is true, that they are who they say they are, or that every conversation will stay kind. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for what players say or send to each other, or for anything that comes of it, in the game or outside it. You can block or report anyone from their profile, and a person reads every report. If someone threatens you, or you think a crime is being committed, contact your local police, and in an emergency call 911. We may give what we hold to police or a court when the law requires it.

Be decent

No harassment, hate, threats, sexual content, scams, spam, impersonation, or anything illegal in Canada. No sharing other people's private information. Reports are read by a person. We may remove content, mute, suspend or close accounts at our discretion, and we do not owe an explanation, though we usually give one.

Game money is not money

Dollars inside TDot Life are play money. They have no cash value, cannot be withdrawn, and may not be bought, sold or traded outside the game. Sending play money to another player is capped each day. Accounts that sell or buy game money, or advertise that, are closed without notice.

No real-money gambling

TDot Life has no games of chance played for real money, and nothing you win in the game can be turned into cash, goods or anything else of real value. The Pool is a hockey pool played with play money only, open to players 19 or older, with daily limits. It shows real game schedules and scores taken from public league data; TDot Life is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any league, team or player, and team names are used only to identify the games. Because play money cannot be withdrawn or sold, nothing of real value is won or lost there. It is for fun and it is not practice for real betting. If gambling is a problem for you or someone close to you, ConnexOntario (connexontario.ca) offers free, confidential help.

Buying a top-up

The game is free and everything in it can be earned by playing. If you choose to buy a top-up, you are buying a licence to use play money inside the game. Prices are in Canadian dollars plus 13% HST, shown before you pay, and the payment is handled by our payment processor; we never see or store your card number. You can ask for a refund of a top-up you have not spent within 14 days of buying it. After that, and for anything already spent, purchases are final except where the law says otherwise. Nothing here takes away rights you have under Ontario's consumer protection law or, if you live in another province, the law there. If a payment is reversed by your bank, we may remove the play money it bought and suspend the account until it is sorted out.

Your content

Posts, chat, names, releases and uploaded tracks stay yours. You give us a licence to show and play them inside the game and in promotion of the game. You promise you have the right to anything you upload, including music.

Ads

Businesses buy space in the city. We check every ad by hand and refuse gambling, crypto, adult, cannabis, alcohol, tobacco and vaping, loan and political ads. We are not responsible for what an advertiser sells. Prices are in Canadian dollars plus HST; ads go live when paid and run for the booked time.

Nothing in the game is real advice

Rent, prices, mortgages, taxes and laws in the game are based on real Toronto figures but simplified for play. They are not financial, legal, medical or housing advice.

The game changes

We add, change and remove features, prices and rules all the time, and sometimes reset parts of the world. We try not to break what you have earned. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will say so in the game before the change takes effect.

Our responsibility to you

The game is provided as is. We do not promise it will always be available or free of errors. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, for what other players say or do, or for losses greater than what you paid us in the twelve months before the problem. Some consumer rights cannot be limited by a contract, and these terms do not try to.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes go to the courts of Ontario, unless the consumer protection law of the province where you live gives you the right to bring a claim there.
