TDot Life is a game made by Clouthier Simulation Labs, a sole proprietorship in Ontario, Canada. This page says what in the game is real, what is made up, and who we have nothing to do with. It sits beside the Terms of play and the Privacy policy.
It is fiction
TDot Life is entertainment: a made-up version of Toronto where getting ahead is easier than it is in real life. Rent, wages, prices, jobs, transit, weather effects and the way the city runs are simplified, exaggerated or invented so the game is fun. Nothing in it is a promise that real life works the same way.
Real places
The city borrows the real map: neighbourhoods, streets and public landmarks keep their real names so the place feels like home. What you find inside them is ours. Layouts, opening hours, staff, prices and what goes on there are invented and can be very different from the real place. A building in the game is not a statement about the real building, its owner or the people who work there.
Businesses and brands
The shops, restaurants, bars, employers and products in the game are invented. We do not use real company names, logos or team names unless that company has an agreement with us. If an invented business has a name close to a real one, that is a coincidence and we will change it when asked.
Advertisers and partners
Real businesses can buy space in the city. Paid placements are marked as ads or as a named partner. An ad is the advertiser's message, not ours: we do not vouch for what they sell, and their being in the game does not mean they approve of everything else in it. Anything not marked as an ad or a partner is not a paid placement and has no connection to any real business.
What characters do is not a claim about anyone real
Characters in the game gossip, complain, tell tall stories, break rules and get things wrong. That is writing, not reporting. Nothing a character says or does is a statement of fact about a real person, business, profession, neighbourhood or community.
Government, city services and police
The game has a city hall, a mayor, elections, a government app, transit, an airport, police, tickets and a court because a city needs them to feel like a city. TDot Life is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the City of Toronto, the Province of Ontario, the Government of Canada, any transit agency, airport authority, police service, court, or any other public body. Nothing in the game is an official service, notice, record or document, and nothing you do in the game counts with any real one.
Officials and officers
Every mayor, councillor, officer, judge, clerk and inspector in the game is a player or an invented character. None of them stands for a real office holder. Real politicians and real political parties are left out of the game on purpose.
Flags, crests and symbols
Our maple leaf is our own drawing. It is not the national flag, the Canada wordmark, a coat of arms or the mark of any government, city or agency, and it is not meant to suggest official status. Signs, badges and uniforms in the game are invented designs.
People
The people who work in the places and the regulars you meet are invented, and so are their stories. Any likeness to a real person, living or dead, is a coincidence. Other players are real adults playing characters; a character is not the person behind it, and what a character says about itself may not be true of that person.
What players say to each other
Players write to each other in private messages, groups, the feed and public chat. Those words are theirs. We do not write them, approve them or check them before they are delivered, and we do not watch conversations as they happen. We do not read private messages unless one is reported to us or the law requires us to look. So we cannot promise that what another player tells you is true, that they are who they say they are, or that every conversation will stay kind. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for what players say or send to each other, or for anything that comes of it, in the game or outside it. You can block or report anyone from their profile, and a person reads every report. If someone threatens you, or you think a crime is being committed, contact your local police, and in an emergency call 911. We may give what we hold to police or a court when the law requires it.
Game dollars
Money in TDot Life is play money. It is not Canadian dollars, not legal tender, not a cryptocurrency and not a stored-value product. It has no cash value, cannot be withdrawn, and cannot be bought, sold or traded outside the game. The Terms of play cover top-ups and refunds.
Money, homes, investing and business
Mortgages, rent, home prices, resale, investing, running a company, hiring staff, taxes and tips in the game are loosely based on real Toronto figures and then bent for play. They are not financial, tax, real estate, legal or career advice, and a strategy that works in the game may lose you money in real life.
Sending money, gifts and tipping
Players can send each other play money, give gifts and tip. That is a social feature with daily limits. It is not a payment service, and it is not a suggestion to send real money to anyone you meet here. Do not.
Crime, tickets and court
Pickpocketing, fines, reports, hearings and verdicts are game rules decided by players with play money. They are not how Canadian law or courts work, and they are not real accusations, charges, records or findings about anyone.
Elections and politics
Elections in the game choose a player to hold a game title. They follow rules we wrote, including a waiting period for new accounts so votes cannot be stuffed. They are not connected to any real election, candidate, party or issue, and the game takes no side in real politics.
Jobs and qualifications
Jobs, shifts, pay, promotions, skills and certificates in the game are part of play. They are not offers of real work, and nothing earned in the game is a real credential, licence or reference.
Alcohol, cannabis and adult humour
The game is for adults 18 and older, and some places in it are 19 and older, the legal age in Ontario. A pub, a liquor store and a legal cannabis shop are there because real Canadian cities have them. What a character does there is pretend, nobody is paid to promote it, and the game does not reward excess. The humour is aimed at rent, weather, transit, raccoons and beavers, not at groups of people.
Sports, weather and other live information
Where the game shows real weather, the real time of day or real game schedules and scores, that information comes from public sources and can be late or wrong. Do not rely on it for anything that matters. Team and league names appear only to identify games; we are not affiliated with or endorsed by any league, team or player.
Accuracy
We try to get the feel of the city right, not every detail. Facts, figures, names and places in the game may be out of date, incomplete or changed on purpose.
If something of yours is in the game
If you believe the game uses your name, your business, your trademark, your work or your likeness in a way it should not, tell us. Send what it is, where you saw it and how to reach you to the address below. A person reads every message, and we would rather fix it quickly than argue about it.
Our own work
The TDot Life name, logo, writing, characters, artwork, map styling and code belong to Clouthier Simulation Labs or are used with permission or under licence. Please ask before you reuse them, apart from sharing screenshots and clips of your own play, which we are happy to see.
The game changes
Places, names, characters, rules and anything else described here may be changed, renamed or removed as the game grows, including when new cities open. We update this page when that matters.
